Last weekend our youth group had a combined social with one of our neighbouring youth groups – we went to Sydney Olympic Park and did an Amazing Race. We had an awesome and crazy time; the weather was perfect and the youth loved it!

One of the real joys for me about youth ministry is being able to just hang out with the youth and build relationships with them. Sometimes it’s hard to do that during the normal Friday night/Sunday morning time, since we tend to get bogged down in getting through our programs. Which is why things like socials, informal catch ups etc. are so great for furthering those relationships that you build on a regular weekly basis.

If you’re a youth leader, might I suggest making July 17 – Revolution Conference – one of those opportunities to hang out with your youth and to cement your relationship with them? Why not make a day out of it? Meet up with your youth group in the morning, travel out to the city together and have an early lunch with them, and then make your way to UNSW in time for registration (which opens at 12 NOON) and the start of the event at 1 PM.

Once inside, encourage your youth to sit as close to the front as possible whilst we’ll have a section towards the back where the youth leaders can sit. Be a part of the event – worship along with the youth, get immersed in the group prayer time with the other leaders, and there may even be opportunities to pray with and minister to the youth throughout the course of the event.

Then post-event, get the train/bus home with your youth and use that time to hear about all that God has done in and through them; how they have been impacted at the conference and how you can play a part in their growth and their journey going forward.

My heart for Revolution Conference and for the whole of the RICE Revolution ministry is to fuel and re-invigorate high schoolers with the grandness and majesty of God, and in doing so to equip and breathe life into youth groups and youth ministries all over this city. It would be a real honour to be able to serve your youth group in that way, and a real encouragement to see your youth group there – you, your leadership team, as well as all your youth!

Oh, and – it’s free entry for youth leaders, and free parking all day anywhere on campus.

Thanks for your support and your prayers. Look forward to seeing you in 10 days time!

We’re really excited with what our friends at RICE Youth sydney are doing this year. They are more eager than ever to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to your friends at your schools. If you haven’t already checked them out, you should!

They’ve got a special announcement and offer for you guys who will be coming to Revolution. Another reason to come along! Why not take this special offer not as a way to save money for yourself, but as an opportunity to buy more tickets for the non-Christian friends who you’re planning to invite!

Want to know what the Revolution team got up to during their Working Bee last Saturday?

The team spent the day playing around and constructing with wood, around thirty cardboard boxes, and lots and lots of tape in the mail room of SMBC – and of course, singing along to songs from the muscial Wicked! In between Macca’s runs, and coffee runs, the team managed to turn these pieces of wood and cardboard boxes into something pretty exciting. Come to Revolution Conference 2010 on July 17th to see what these creations will turn out to be! Meanwhile, here are some photos to give you a sneak peek to behind the scences of the Revolution Working Bee…
