“The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.” – Bach.

Music is a wonderful gift God has given humans. Through music we can express things that we can’t with just words, and songs can stick into someone’s memory much easier than speeches can. Paul tells the Colossians to “sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God”.

And you know what, that’s the Revolution Band has been doing in the last couple of weeks! We’ve had two practices in preparation for Revolution Conference next month, and we’re really excited for what’s going to happen on the day! Here’s a few photos and videos our director Adrian Tam took during our first rehearsal (video quality ain’t superb!):

God has really been helping and guiding the practices, especially before the second one. Late afternoon I got a call from Adrian saying that someone had overbooked St Thomas Anglican (where we were for the first one) and I’d probably have to call everyone up and cancel. I asked if Jess, one of our worship leaders, to ask if we could use her church – CCC Milsons Point, and we really thank God that the person working there was fine with us using the hall at such late notice.

But Jess didn’t have her CCC keys with her, which we’d need to lock up with afterwards, so we drove back to her place to get them… and that’s another thing I thank God for – keeping us safe in the rain and moderate traffic and we still got back safely and just about on time.

Then there was the problem with getting the sound to work. None of us had used the stuff at CCC before, and everything seemed to be turned on already, but the sound wasn’t coming back out. After a while we started stressing out (well, Ludo decided to go take a nap since he stayed up super late doing an assignment =P) and it really felt like, as Jess put it, Satan was trying to stop us from practising. So I went back to the sound desk and did a short prayer which included something like “hey God, if what we’re going to be doing seems good in your eyes, show us what we haven’t turned on properly and get this practice going for you!”. Few seconds later, my hand wandered to a knob called “Equalizer” – I have no idea what it does, but they all seemed to be turned down. Turned them up a little, and hear Chris (our other worship leader) from the front yell “WOO WHAT’D YOU DO!!”. Great reminder that God’s always here with us =)

After all that, we had a blast praising God, and we can’t wait to worship with you guys in just a bit more than a month’s time. We’re praying that Revolution Conference isn’t going to be just an event where you feel an emotional high for a day or two, but that everyone attending will be encouraged to live every day at school and whatever comes after that for God!

To finish off, here’s Chris and Jess talking about Revo Conference 2010!
